Hi, I’m Cheryl McLoughlin St Amour, and I’m glad you are here.
Trauma became the focus of my career through both my own experiences and my education.
I have a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology from UVIC with research focused on complex trauma. I also have a post-graduate certificate in addictions from McMaster University. From there, I’ve expanded my practice to incorporate trauma-focused counselling, utilizing EMDR, and Indigenous Focusing-Oriented Therapy.
The way I show up as a counsellor is largely driven by my own experience that life can change in an instant. When we sit together, whether that’s in person in Victoria, BC, or online, you can trust that I will show up with humility, authenticity, and the deep-seated belief that healing doesn’t mean forgetting; it means learning to live beyond our experiences.
I also recognize that healing doesn’t only happen within a therapy session, it relies on the context of our peers, communities, culture and lived experiences. I am honoured to provide counselling services on the unceded traditional territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən peoples of the Songhees Nation, Esquimalt Nation, and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples.
